Things to do in Slovenia and what a holiday costs

These are the things to do in Slovenia worth planning around, with what they cost.

Slovenia uses the euro and is the most expensive country in this guide, closer to Austria than to its southern neighbours. In return it is very easy to travel: clean, safe, compact and well signposted.

Things to do in Slovenia

  • Lake Bled: Row or take a pletna boat to the island church, walk the lake shore and climb to the Ojstrica or Mala Osojnica viewpoints.
  • Lake Bohinj: Quieter and wilder than Bled, with the Savica waterfall and the Vogel cable car.
  • The Soča valley: Emerald river, rafting and kayaking around Bovec and Kobarid.
  • Caves: Postojna for the train ride inside the cave, Škocjan for its huge underground canyon (UNESCO).
  • Ljubljana: A small, car-free old town along the river, the castle and the Central Market.
  • Piran: A Venetian harbour town on the coast with a seafront promenade.
